The company cornerstone was laid in 1915 by Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin. Today, ZF is a global leader in driveline and chassis technology as well as active and passive safety technology. The company acquired TRW Automotive on May 15, 2015 which was integrated into the organizational structure as the Active & Passive Safety Technology Division. The combined company has a global workforce of around 138,300 at about 230 locations in some 40 countries and reported sales of €29.2 billion in 2015.
Who are we?
The ZF Group structure is aligned with the market and customers. The business units are assigned to the following six divisions: Car Powertrain Technology, Car Chassis Technology, Commercial Vehicle Technology, Industrial Technology, E-Mobility and Active & Passive Safety Technology.
Car Powertrain Technology
ZF is pooling its activities for passenger car powertrain technology in the Car Powertrain Technology Division. This includes the development, production and sale of transmissions, axle drives, powertrain modules, as well as light alloy die-cast components.
Car Chassis Technology
The Car Chassis Technology Division has the overall responsibility for complete front and rear axle systems for vehicles of up to six tons. The division's portfolio also includes chassis and steering components, dampers, electronic damper and chassis systems for vehicles from all renowned global manufacturers.
Commercial Vehicle Technology
The Commercial Vehicle Technology Division is responsible for the ZF Group's international business of driveline and chassis technology for vehicles over 3.5 tons. The product portfolio includes automated and manual transmissions, powershift transmissions and powertrain components such as clutches and electric drives for trucks and buses. The portfolio also comprises complete axle systems and chassis components for vehicles of all renowned commercial vehicle manufacturers worldwide.
ZF pools its activities for off-road applications in the Industrial Technology Division. These comprise the development and production of transmissions and axles for agricultural and construction machinery as well as driveline technology for forklift trucks, rail and special vehicles. The division is also responsible for the worldwide business of marine propulsion systems,
aviation technology as well as the development and production of wind turbine gearboxes. Test systems for all kinds of applications in driveline and chassis technology are also included in the division’s portfolio.
Active & Passive Safety Technology
ZF is continuing the successful business activities of the TWR Automotive company taken over in May 2015 within their Active & Passive Safety Technology Division. Together with the other ZF divisions, system solutions can be perfectly matched to each other and contribute decisively to the megatrends of the future – such as efficiency, safety and autonomous driving. The
division also includes business units such as Braking and Steering Systems, Occupant Safety Systems and Electronics.
The electrification of the drive is an essential means for ZF to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions in road traffic. The technology company offers hybrid modules, plug-in hybrid transmissions as well as electric drives for electric vehicles complete with power electronics and system integration. Since the start of 2016, ZF has been bundling its emobility
activities in a new E-Mobility Division. The division's headquarters are in Schweinfurt (Germany).
This is also where the E-Mobility system house was initiated, where all electromobility-related requests are processed and the competencies of the Group bundled. A total of more than 5,300 employees work for ZF in the field of e-mobility at various locations around the world.
ZF Services and TRW Aftermarket ensure that ZF systems expertise is carried forward consistently into the aftermarket. With integrated solutions and the entire ZF product portfolio, the aftermarket organizations make sure that vehicles perform well and remain efficient throughout their entire service life.
